Financial Support

Fostering Benefits

When considering becoming a foster carer, it is important to have all of the facts. And one element that we know it’s important to be clear on is the financial payments and allowances you’re entitled to. We provide generous payments and additional allowances to ensure that you are rewarded for the amazing care you provide.

Generous allowances and comprehensive support.

Fostering allowances

We know how important emotional and financial support is when offering care to a child or young person, so we offer all of our carers competitive payments & generous allowances and ensure every single one is supported in their fostering journey.

What financial benefits will I receive?

  • Child’s allowance

At Foster for Plymouth, we split our payments so you have a clear view on the money to go towards the children in your care, which can be spent on the essentials the child or young person might need. The allowance payment varies based on the age and needs of each child.

  • Reward payment for carer

This payment is there to recognise the value and commitment that foster families bring to our service and as a way for us to thank you for your incredible work. We have taken the step to streamline all of our reward payments, which means that our carers all receive the same heightened reward payments, regardless of the age of the children in their care.

  • Council Tax Support or Exemptions

We have introduced a scheme to help our foster carers with their council tax, either by ensuring a reduced rate or a complete exemption for carers.

  • Additional Allowances

We provide a number of generous additional allowances per child in the care of our foster carers to cover costs like clothing, school trips, fuel and more. But in addition to this, we also provide Christmas or holiday allowances to help out that little bit more during the more expensive times of the year.
